Instinctual Anxieties of Parenthood

As humans there are just some things we have to learn on our own. Children are no different. Although we aim to protect them from any form of harm in this crazy world, some lessons require learning through experience. Perfect example…running at the pool. A child won’t really understand how harmful this can be until they eventually slip and fall. There are lessons to be taken from these instances. However small they may be, some can actually be utilized as principles for life.

As a parent, one of our worst anxieties is seeing our kid get hurt. One could argue that the anxiety parents feel seeing their child on the verge of potentially hurting themselves, is worse than the casual day to day concern. Let’s give some quick “on the verge” examples shall we just to paint the picture:

  • jumping near the edge of the bed
  • walking near the corner of a table
  • using the laundry basket as a sled down the stairs
  • jumping off a swing
  • competitive sports. Yes…sports!

Anyway, the point is that parents don’t want to see their child(ren) harmed and tend to fight that anxious grimace that accompanies watching their child engage in such activity. But sometimes…they just…
